New Car!

Well, after much trial and tribulation, not to mention months of research and discussion, Valerie and I bought our first new car on Friday. My faithful 1992 Honda Accord (with 229,500+ miles) was traded in and we walked out of Honda Mall of Georgia with a new 2011 Honda Odyssey EX.

It was a long time from our first test drive in October of 2010 until now, and while we seriously considered the Toyota Sienna as a worthwhile competitor, we couldn’t get over some of the minor design differences between the two vehicles (I’m sure we’ve probably bored a number of you guys discussing the differences over the preceding 5 months). That being said, we love the Odyssey and plan on keeping it around for 10+ years as the new baby wagon, especially considering that baby numero dos is due to arrive sometime around the end of May.

Now I realize that some people wouldn’t be caught dead in a minivan, and we did get a lot of questions as to if we considered a SUV instead. We did. Really. But at the end of the day, assuming you don’t have a hangup about driving a minivan, we just found the Odyssey to be the best value for what we were looking for in a new car. Who knows, at some point down the road the Camry will begin to get a little long in the tooth, and we’ll be replacing that with a smaller more fuel efficient daily driver-type car. Hopefully that’ll be a few years in the future when we have to consider THAT.

It was also our first time going through the process of haggling and signing paperwork and absorbing a car payment (all firsts for us). We made it to the dealership sometime around 7 PM and didn’t actually get to leave with the car until around 10:30 PM. (Some of that is my fault for arguing for the next trim level up, but I couldn’t get the dealership to give me the car for less than they paid for it. I know I know, total negotiation failure. Gotta work on that.) We were the last people (other than 2 employees) to leave the dealership. Gotta love that.

Anyways, I’ve rambled on enough, here is a quick picture I snapped this morning before heading to the gym. It’s still got that new car smell, so just ask if you want a ride in the swagger wagon, we certainly got room for ya!
