Home Alone
Sorry for the lack of human/writing/quality posts on here. I’ve been stuffing the site with content aggregated from around the web that I find interesting and neglecting to keep it down to earth about what’s going on around here. So yeah, I know I should do it more often but I find that free time to sit down and ramble on about stuff with a mischievous and rambunctious almost-3 year old is a bit of a challenge.
So you’re going to get a superpost. It’s my new term for multiple posts of junk stuffed into one mega heaping of content.
I had considered doing that 36 question thing that Anita and Melissa capped the New Year with, but after doing a quick check in my head of the probable answers I would put down I found it to be excessively negative in nature and opted not to. I can understand that most people had an enjoyable 2010, but for us in this house it was a year of rather diminished expectations and setbacks. There is nothing wrong with that, each year brings its ups and downs that everyone has to wind up navigating, but we’d rather look forward to making 2011 a year of success rather than taking our lumps.
Instead, I’ll tell you that from today until Sunday I am effectively a single parent. Valerie took a solo jaunt to a Bed and Breakfast somewhere in Indiana to visit her BFF Sarah for the weekend, leaving me with the solo parenting duties here at the house. I realize it may be pretty common practice for most Moms that have to watch Dad make business trips and be home alone with the kids, but for me having the tables turned is a new experience. I’m trying to not totally have a dudes-weekend and just veg out on pizza, beer and doritos, but if you know of any cute diaper-clad 3-ish year olds ladies maybe I can make sure David has some fun. Party anyone?
Just kidding. (Not really)
Other than that, we’ve been busy doing work to the house (I just redid the new nursery closet, as it was a disaster when we moved in and just kinda put up with it until now) and trying to find time to buy a new car/van to cart 2 kids around in. We looked at the Honda Odyssey and we’re trying to find time to look at the Toyota Sienna and a few other options before making a decision, but it’s been difficult to find time to do so. That, and we’re absolutely terrible about spending money. We like to joke about it, but sometimes it’s a real hassle to come to an agreement to spend money on something. So there’s that.
Last thing, David’s 3rd birthday is coming up. That will mark 1 year of working out on a regular basis for me. It’s funny that I can use every year David gets older to remind me that I’m not getting any younger and inspire me to hit the gym, which I’ve managed to do successfully (minus the occasional illness, vacations and holidays) for almost a year now. Now if I could only fix my diet I’d be set. Right? (Damn you Mountain Dew!)
